Our Services
WELLNESS EXAMS/PREVENTIVE CARE
Because of the shorter lifespan of our pets, we stress the importance of a yearly physical examination. Senior pets should have an examination every 6 months. Regular checkups can allow early detection and treatment of serious health problems.
- Vaccinations – Vaccination remains the best method of protecting our pets from preventable diseases. We tailor our vaccination protocols to the pet’s individual lifestyle and potential for exposure to the various diseases for which vaccines are available.
- Heartworm testing and prevention – Heartworm is a common mosquito-spread parasite of dogs in our area. We recommend that all dogs be tested for heartworm yearly and take heartworm preventive year-round.
- Flea and tick control – Our knowledgeable staff can assist you in selecting the best products to control fleas and ticks on your pets for your specific situation.
- Microchipping – A microchip provides a rapidly safe method of permanent identification for your pet. Our microchips are compliant with global standards and are registered immediately.
- Nutritional counseling – We can provide guidance regarding your pet’s nutritional needs throughout its life. We stock a full line of premium pet foods for all life stages, as well as a wide variety of prescription diets for pets with specific health problems.
- Obesity management – Obesity is becoming a major health issue in our pet population, with estimates that over 50% of dogs and cats are considered overweight. As obesity can greatly impact the long-term health and life expectancy of our pets by increasing the risk of diseases such as diabetes, bone, and joint disease, heart and lung disease, and certain types of cancer, we offer advice on weight management including proper diet, amount to feed, types and amounts of treats, exercise, and regular weight checks to evaluate progress.
DIAGNOSTIC AND THERAPEUTIC SERVICES
Our hospital is equipped to provide diagnostic and therapeutic services for your pet’s health care needs.
- Surgical services – Our surgery suite is equipped to perform a wide variety of general surgical procedures, using safe anesthetics with vital sign monitoring during all procedures. Post-operative pain management is provided for all patients undergoing painful surgical procedures. Many of our surgeries are performed on an “out-patient” basis, with the pet being admitted the morning of surgery and discharged in the afternoon.
- Dentistry – Regular dental care is important to maintain the health of your pet’s teeth. Our dental services include teeth cleaning and polishing, tooth extractions, and minor oral surgery. More complex dental problems can be referred to a specialist in veterinary dentistry. We also carry a range of products for home dental care between cleanings.
- Radiology –Our on-site x-ray equipment allows for the rapid diagnosis of many disorders.
- Laboratory – Our in-house laboratory facilities allow rapid evaluation of patient blood, urine, and stool samples for the diagnosis of parasites and disease. We also utilize commercial laboratories for more specialized or comprehensive diagnostic testing.
- Pharmacy – We maintain a complete inventory of pharmaceuticals, dietary supplements, heartworm preventives, and flea and tick control products to meet your pet’s needs. For pets that are difficult to medicate, we can compound many medications into a flavored liquid formulation for easier administration.
- Cryosurgery – Using our cryosurgery device, we can remove small skin growths on our patients painlessly without the need for anesthesia.
- Laser therapy – Our Class IV therapeutic laser can be used to reduce the pain from arthritis or injury, speed wound healing, and reduce pain and swelling after surgery.
REFERRAL SERVICES
For pets requiring more advanced diagnostic procedures (ultrasound, endoscopy, MRI/CT scan), treatment (chemotherapy, radiation therapy), or more complicated surgical procedures (orthopedic surgery, complex dental procedures) we maintain close ties with board-certified veterinary specialists in the St. Louis area and at the University of Missouri Veterinary Teaching Hospital in Columbia.
BOARDING
We provide boarding services for both dogs and cats. Dogs are housed in spacious indoor runs that are heated and air-conditioned. Cats are housed in individual cages with a resting bench and “hidey-hole.” We provide premium maintenance pet food or you are welcome to provide your pet’s own food if you prefer. Dogs must be current on vaccination for DAPP (distemper, hepatitis, parainfluenza, and parvovirus), bordetella, canine influenza, and rabies. Cats must be current on vaccination for distemper, upper respiratory virus, and rabies. Any pet found to have fleas and ticks on arrival will be treated at the owner’s expense. We only admit or discharge animals from the boarding facility during normal business hours.
